The proof is in the details!
Following are some questions you might
want to ask the video professional you're considering for your wedding.
The information gained will help you determine if you're really dealing with
a true professional or a "wannabe".
How many camera's will be used and
will they be utilized in the best possible way.
A videographer may tell you they shoot
with two or even three camera's but what they may not tell you is that one
or even two of those cameras are not manned! A camera without an operator is
"locked down" and set to record at the same distance capturing the same
static scene for the entire ceremony. Not following the action and
capturing the right angle with the proper composition is just short of
useless!
We use two cameras to record every
wedding ceremony and there is a videographer at each one. They compose the
scene and follow the action to get the best possible shot. If a videographer tells you they only use one camera for the ceremony and that
you don't really need two - turn and walk out the door! You simply can
not get complete coverage recording a wedding ceremony with only one camera!
Do they do a site survey and attend
your rehearsal?
If not, they simply are not serious
enough about their craft or your wedding!.
We attend every single wedding rehearsal.
We plan the video coverage based on your particular wedding ceremony. We
meet with the clergy or officiate and discuss placement of cameras and audio
equipment in order for us to get the best coverage possible while adhering
to the rules and regulations of the church or venue. We also meet with the
church's sound technician to plan audio recording requirements and we
generally record from their
public address system.
What type of video equipment are they
using?
Ok, this is where it can get confusing if
you haven't been keeping up to date on the latest technology but a little
knowledge can go a long way. For example, you don't need to know that the
videographer is using "Sony PD-170 Mini-DV cameras", but you do need to ask
if they are using "3-chip cameras". If not, they are probably using consumer
grade camcorders (1 chip) that do not record a high quality image. It's one thing if
uncle Harry is taping the wedding for you, but if you're hiring a
professional you want them using professional equipment and you expect professional results.
We use all 3-chip cameras and
professional tri-pods with fluid heads for smooth jitter-free movement.
